Health Performance Index (HPI) Institute

Why HPI Matters

Why HPI Matters

Employers provide health coverage, but many employees have never been taught how to use it effectively. Poor healthcare decisions can increase costs and reduce benefit value.

Measuring health knowledge and decision-making like a credit score

The Health Performance Index (HPI) is a standardized, non-clinical scoring system developed by the HPI Institute to measure health knowledge and decision-making capability.

HPI establishes a measurable framework for evaluating how individuals understand and navigate healthcare systems.

Why It Matters

Healthcare is one of the largest—and least controlled—expenses for employers.

Much of that cost is driven by everyday decisions—not just medical conditions.

A Measurable Approach

HPI is structured as a standardized scoring model (300–900), designed to evaluate health literacy and decision competence without the use of medical data.

Standards Development

The Health Performance Index (HPI) is being developed as a standardized framework for broad institutional application, including employers, insurers, and public-sector organizations.

Pilot Program Now Available

The HPI Pilot Program is now available for a limited number of organizations seeking to better understand and manage healthcare costs through improved decision-making. Initial pilot opportunities are being offered on a limited basis as part of early implementation.
